10 Former WWE World Champions Who Never Faced Brock Lesnar

6. John 'Bradshaw' Layfield

The WWE Universe would be forgiven for assuming that Brock Lesnar and John ‘Bradshaw’ Layfield did battle at some point. They wouldn’t be incorrect - the two faced off in a number of house show matches prior to Lesnar’s debut. Bradshaw and Faarooq also defeated Lesnar and a partner in a couple of late 2001 dark matches, and I guarantee you can’t name the partner.

This was all before Bradshaw became JBL of course. The rough Texan seems like exactly the type of individual that would have faced Lesnar early in Brock’s career. A win for Brock over the veteran Bradshaw would have announced the arrival of 'The Next Big Thing'. The match never happened on television however.

Shortly after Lesnar left WWE the first time around, Bradshaw became JBL and embarked on a main event run that nobody saw coming. By the time Brock returned, Bradshaw’s in-ring career was over. ‘The Wrestling God’ found himself commentating on Lesnar’s intensity, as opposed to trying to find a way to overcome it.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
