10 Frustrating WWE Storylines That'll Never Have A Conclusion

2. Who Raised The Briefcase?

In the aftermath of the complex Corporate Ministry storyline in 1999, Steve Austin was set to wrestle against chairman Vince McMahon himself in a bid to gain control of the WWF, from those holding him down. This ladder match at King of the Ring 1999 would not be contended for a title, or a Money in the Bank contract, but a briefcase that contains documents which would make the winner the active owner of the WWF. Austin would face off in a handicap match against Vince and Shane, but if the deck wasn't stacked enough, there was someone else preventing him from winning the match as he would climb the ladder. In the matches climatic minutes, Austin would climb the ladder and approach the briefcase, only for it to ascend higher, far out of his reach on any ladder. At that point on, Austin had virtually no chance of winning, as noted several times by the commentators, who themselves questioned who was up there manipulating the briefcase. We got virtually no answer from the next show or on subsequent editions of Monday Night Raw, but general rumors say The Big Boss Man was responsible. Unfortunately, we'll never know.
