10 Frustrating WWE Storylines That'll Never Have A Conclusion
4. Sean O'Haire Acting As A Devil's Advocate
Of all of the cancelled angles, gimmicks and storylines, there's one clear instance that is constantly mentioned as one of WWE's biggest dropped balls, an angle that fans, critics and wrestlers alike seemed to love from the very beginning. After Sean O'Haire had floundered from his debut during the Invasion angle, and from a year wrestling exclusively on Sunday Night Heat, he was given an edgy new gimmick and several pre-debut vignettes in 2003. His new character was that of devil's advocate-esque persuader. He'd talk about a variety of topics; religion, being faithful, paying our taxes, drugs, food, encouraging viewers to give into their vices. After the promos, Sean O'Haire debuted and would start persuading fellow superstars to do ridiculous things, causing Brian Kendrick to streak in the audience, for example. Soon after, the gimmick was cut and for some reason, Sean O'Haire was stuck with Roddy Piper as a mentor, as the vignettes were soon forgotten, Sean put back in a generic heel persona. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i5LJvOt_8B0 The vignettes and character was received as incredibly unique, interesting and full of potential, but it seems like the WWE didn't quite know how to manifest it on the actual wrestling programs. Sean O'Haire was a tragically wasted talent in the WWE who had great athletic ability, an impressive physique and a fair amount of charisma. His new character seemed ready to do him justice but before we knew it, it was gone and Sean O'Haire was back in OVW shortly, before being released.
