10 Fun Facts About My Trip To The 25th Anniversary Of WWE WrestleMania

3. Ricky Steamboat Saves His Team & Mickey Rourke Knocks Out Jericho

Going into WrestleMania, Chris Jericho's program with WWE Legends was a highlight of RAW for me. As we got into the stadium, we weren't sure if Mickey Rourke would get involved but in our section we all seemed to be on the edge of our seats to see what's going to happen. As Ricky Steamboat, Jimmy Snuka and Roddy Piper made their way to the (accompanied by Ric Flair), our section was chanting for Steamboat, since he was the best chance at producing some exciting action in the match. When Snuka got in the ring, it felt kinda morbid, watching a legendary figure who had zero left to offer inside the squared circle. Luckily, Jericho quickly put him out of his misery with the Walls of Jericho. Roddy Piper was a little more exciting, even managing to land a dropkick on Y2J. Being from Scotland, I was behind the Hot Rod all the way and hoping he could do something special but, sadly, he'd be forgettably eliminated with a Code Breaker shortly afterwards. When The Dragon got into the ring, me and my friend Mike had our hands over our face hoping and praying that Steamboat was going to save the match and give us something memorable. Out of nowhere, Ricky Steamboat transported all 70,000 of us back to the early 1990's with arm drags, hip tosses and flurries of offence that suddenly made this match memorable. Steamboat really did roll back the years and looked as smooth as silk in there with Y2J. He eventually succumbed to Jericho but looked great in defeat, really getting us going with a couple of dramatic near falls. Post-match we were ecstatic at what The Dragon had done when Mickey Rourke got involved and threw a worked punch at Jericho to cap off an incredibly memorable part of WrestleMania XXV. Had this match gone on last rather than Triple H and Randy Orton, maybe we'd have all left the stadium on a high, as opposed to feeling of despair the boring main event we had to sit through conjured up.
