10 Fun Facts From My Trip To WWE WrestleMania 30
2. Daniel Bryan Saved WrestleMania
In the weeks leading up to WrestleMania, the prospect of Batista against Randy Orton for the WWE World Championship headlining the biggest show of the year was not something that anybody wanted to deal with. The Animal had returned as a babyface but was rejected by the WWE fans almost immediately.
Every fan I spoke to or saw on social media wanted Daniel Bryan in the main event of WrestleMania. Bryan had been the fighting underdog throughout the summer and winter and hadn't gotten a fair shake at being on top. A few weeks before the show, it was announced that D-Bry would face off against Triple H where he could finally shut The Authority up.
Even though it was exciting to see Bryan in a top spot, fans still wanted more and wanted him in the title picture, so finally the stipulation was set that if he beat HHH, he'd be added to the show-closing match.
The opening match with Triple H ranked up their with Bret and Owen in terms of excellent 'Mania openers. The match had a ton of heat and, importantly, the right guy won and Bryan advanced to the main event as we all celebrated in the crowd like our favourite team had made the playoffs.
After Undertaker losing the Streak, the crowd needed something to pick them up and it came in the form of Daniel Bryan. When he made Batista tap out to become the WWE World Heavyweight Champion, I had tears in my eyes and was so happy for him that he'd overcome the odds and that, for the first time in years, a fresh babyface was at the top of the mountain to close WrestleMania.
I looked around the 70,000 plus in the stadium with confetti raining down and Yes chants drowning out every other sound and realised that these were the kind of moments I live for as a wrestling fan. It just doesn't get any better than that.
