10 Fun Facts From My Trip To WWE WrestleMania XXVII

8. Rowdy Roddy Piper's One-Man Show

Since Roddy Piper passed away, it's even more special that my friends and I took the 45 minute bus journey outside of Atlanta to head to a comedy club to see Hot Rod do his own one-man show the Friday before WrestleMania. Before the event, he was outside the bar in the parking lot doing meet and greets and he couldn't have been nicer. He immediately knew I was from Glasgow and talked about how he'd like to get back there someday. The show itself was a lot of fun. Roddy talked about his career, tried not to say too many bad things about Hulk Hogan and then he randomly pulled out a bag from behind the stage. Inside was the actual dog collar from his infamous Starrcade 1983 match with Greg Valentine. Piper let the collar be passed round the audience incase they wanted a picture or anything, which was a nice touch.
As a surprise at the end, he motioned to the back of the room and Sgt. Slaughter walked onto the stage as the two of them traded war stories and talked about working for the WWF together. Roddy was a class act that day, and I'm incredibly glad I got to meet him and hear his tales.
