10 Genius Ways Wrestlers Survived WWE Humiliations

3. Rey Mysterio Wows The Audience

Fans in 2005 would've laughed at Rey Mysterio for admitting that he struggled getting it up and impregnating his wife. That was the hand WWE dealt him - Rey, viewers were told, needed good pal Eddie Guerrero's help. That suggested Dominik was actually Eddie's kid, not Rey's.

How did Mysterio counteract this booking? Well, he just kept on being so damn good inside the ring that folks focused more on the quality of his matches. WWE's soap opera drama was a necessary evil to some, because they still knew the masked man would delivered bangers in-ring.

He did.

Rey managed to overcome WWE's embarrassing backstory by being world class as a high-flyer. His matches regularly stole the show, and that wasn't going to change even with the 'Guerrero is Dom's daddy' cloud hanging over his work.

The next year, Mysterio's performances had been so good and so consistent that WWE decided to put the World Title on him. Says it all.
