Baron Corbin plays a heel in the most wonderful of ways. In an era where bad guys tend to get cheered for being more interesting and more entertaining characters, Corbin managed to maintain an aura through 2017 to 2021 that was guaranteed to generate boos. He was a true heel and all the props to him for being able to be that hateable.

But there was certainly an element of “go away” to his heat as Corbin had safe and solid but often underwhelming matches and there was only so much juice to be squeezed out of the likes of the Constable and King personas.

Sympathy turned Corbin’s crowd reactions totally around. His character and its reactions were completely refreshed. The story crescendo in the inevitable rise of Happy Corbin, who won it big in Vegas and became filthy rich. Whilst it couldn’t last forever, it was a clever reinvention for a star who many were completely tired of.
