10 Genuine Reasons For Modern Wrestling Fans To Be Excited
4. Maxwell Jacob Friedman
There may not be a better heel in the game today. In pro wrestling, the best angles are the ones that look and feel like a shoot. Post-kayfabe era, the goal of any wrestler should be to make fans think, "It may all be fake... but THAT looked real!" MJF has been doing this arguably better than any other heel wrestler over the last three years.
If his recent fallout with AEW is a shoot, it's fooled more than a few thus far. On the June 1, 2022 episode of Dynamite, Maxwell Jacob Friedman dropped a little dynamite... or pipe bomb ...of his own. MJF masterfully orated a nine-minute promo in which he vented frustrations regarding pay, contract negotiations, backstage politics (with some self-congratulations mixed in) and unfair treatment by others in the company.
The promo ended by calling AEW President Tony Khan a "f***ing mark" and demanding to be fired, before his mic was cut.
AEW has gone so far as to remove MJF from their roster. Tony Khan refused to address the matter with the media. If it's a work, kudos to the effort involved. MJF's feud with Wardlow has shown that he can keep viewers interested in extended angles while building heat. Now that the feud has blown over, this pipe bomb could just be the dawn of a stellar chapter in MJF's career.
