10 Gimmick Matches WWE Should NEVER Book Again
4. Punjabi Prison
Confession time: Your writer was once taken by the thought of a barbaric bamboo cage. It seemed like the kind of battleground Jean-Claude Van Damme would've suffered through in one of his movies, and it definitely fit The Great Khali's 'final level boss' vibes. Then, he got injured and Big Show replaced him against The Undertaker.
So much for that signature feel.
It didn't help that the physical cage was painful to look at too. Fans squinted through the multi-layered shell at whatever action was taking place inside the ring. Then, they had to sit through interminable sequences and the whole trap door formatting. None of this fed urgency or excitement.
WWE revived the gimmick in 2017 for Jinder Mahal, but removed the spikiest of spikes and straps attached to the bamboo. If they ever think about wheeling this out again, they should whip themselves with those straps first, then cancel it.
