10 Gimmick Matches WWE Should NEVER Book Again

3. Eye For An Eye

Extreme Rules Seth Rollins vs. Rey Mysterio Eye for an Eye

The best wrestling stipulations are those companies can actually follow through on. For example, the recent "I Quit" bout between Roman Reigns and Jey Uso at HIAC 2020 didn't end until the latter had screamed those magic words. Simple, easy to understand and doesn't need an elaborate out.

WWE's 'Eye For An Eye' match did need an out, and the promotion couldn't find one. That meant Rey Mysterio had to doctor his trademark masks to reflect the pretence that he'd "lost one of his eyes" against Seth Rollins. No-one believes it - they didn't believe it before the match happened, and they don't believe it now.

Future stips need to be a little less...over-the-top.

That might seem odd considering pro wrestling is OTT to begin with it, but yes. The thought that Rey lost one of his eyes forever following 'The Horror Show At Extreme Rules' was a bit far-fetched, and it's one to avoid for creative going forwards.
