Check the look of pure disdain written all over Hunter's face above.

He won the WWF's King Of The Ring tournament in 1997 after a year of sheer misery post-'Curtain Call', but Triple H definitely didn't want to wear that cartoony crown with the big logo plonked on top of it. According to Bruce Prichard on various pods, Trips would go out of his way to wreck the royal props on the road.

'The Game' (who wasn't quite at that lofty level just yet) lost every crown handed to him, and the same went for the garish robe he was asked to wear. Eventually, he'd settle on the robe, but the crown? That had to go. If he was going to be 'King', then he wanted it to be in his image. In other words, not a walking cartoon.

Christ, the guy must've got PTSD when he was shaking GUNTHER's hand over in Saudi Arabia and handing him the crown in 2024. Same when he passed Nia Jax her crown on the same show. All those flashbacks to '96 could've had him running a mile!
