10 Gimmicks That WWE Dropped Without Explanation

10. 'Reverend' D-Von

WWE's not-so-bright idea to split The Dudley Boyz during the first Draft in 2002 flopped just a few weeks in. On Raw, Bubba-Ray was doing his best Dusty Rhodes common man impression in the midcard. Over on SmackDown, D-Von was swimming against the tide as a corrupt, money-grabbing man of the cloth.

By November, the company decided to rectify their mistake and put both kayfabe bros back together at Survivor Series. Fans packing MSG responded in kind with booming cheers, and everybody promptly forgot all about D-Von's little side gig as a 'Reverend'.

Neither he, Bubba-Ray or WWE's announcers would mention this on-air again. The promotion might have made passing reference to the gimmick in documentaries or interviews, but they generally ignore it and pretend the Dudleyz were always an item.
