Like Mike 'Nova' Bucci, Nick Dinsmore was a well-respected, talented wrestler who just couldn't get a promotion from OVW to the main roster. WWE couldn't come up with anything for him to do creatively. So he took matters into his own hands and created a gimmick for himself and pitched it to WWE. Yes, Eugene was Dinsmore's own idea. He came up with the idea of portraying the 'special' nephew of Raw General Manager Eric Bischoff. The Eugene character was a surprise instant hit, although the gimmick was derided in some circles who felt it was making fun of people with mental disabilities (although WWE were quick to point out that Eugene was 'special' or 'overly-excited' and nothing more). Eugene dominated WWE Raw in the summer of 2004 before his momentum was waylaid by Triple H at SummerSlam. WWE could give the gimmick another go at some point. Dinsmore can always return for one-off appearances (he had been working as a trainer in NXT before being released in October 2014), too.
