10 Gimmicks WWE Should Steal From Television (And Who Could Use Them)

Not all wrestling gimmicks need to be deathly serious and intensely detailed. There is always, always, always going to be a place for comedy in pro wrestling, especially in the hyper-serious modern world. Sure, it might make Jim Cornette’s skin crawl, but Corny’s skin is likely in a state of constant crawling anyway.

Garth Marenghi’s Darkplace is one of the greatest British comedy shows in the history of time and space. It may well be the best one to never get the attention it deserves, but that is another story for another time. The show was a parody of 1980s horror TV, set in an Essex hospital that seemed cursed, although what passed for cursed was just daily life at Darkplace Hospital.

All of the characters in Darkplace are worthy of attention, but the hyper-cool stylings and none-more-slick personality of Dr. Lucien Sanchez would fit perfectly into the wacky world of professional wrestling. Fandango, you’ve found your next gimmick. Bonus points for working the ‘buddies’ line into anything, anything at all.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
