10 Goldberg WWE Matches You Completely Forgot About

5. Matt Hardy - RAW January 2004

It was always a foolproof strategy for WWE; if you need to establish someone as a monster, give them a match against one of the Hardy Boyz. It worked for Brock Lesnar after all. The second RAW of 2004 saw Matt Hardy looking for competition, and whilst Stone Cold Steve Austin came out to challenge him Matt was quick to turn down the Texas Rattlesnake's offer. Hardy wanted a new opponent however, not someone he had wrestled previously.

To Matt's dismay and Austin's delight the challenge was accepted by Goldberg, and for the first time in WWE history Goldberg vs. Matt Hardy happened. It was the only time too, with the Sensei of Mattitude putting up little resistance in the face of the former World Heavyweight Champion's intense onslaught.

Matt did hit a Side Effect, but it had as little effect as it did two months earlier when used on Goldberg by Mark Henry. A press slam, a spear and a Jackhammer later, Matt's night was done.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
