10 Good Matches From Wrestlers You Wouldn't Expect

5. Savio Vega (Vs. Stone Cold Steve Austin) - In Your House: Beware Of Dog

Vega is one of wrestling's permanent background players, a utility guy who made up the numbers and turned up on dozens of pay-per-views without leaving much of an impact on the wrestling world. Vega's greatest moment would come in Steve Austin's rise towards stardom, but his would be more than a mere bit part for once and he would break out a quality match against Austin with his signature Caribbean Strap Match.

1996's awkwardly-named In Your House: Beware Of Dog was a bizarre affair cut short when a lightning strike killed power to the event. Savio Vega and Steve Austin competed in a repeat of their truncated match two nights later, this time with the lights on.

The two fought an impassioned, painful-looking brawl with Vega laying down particularly vicious-looking strap shots to a prone Austin. The strap match gimmick worked in favour of the match's intensity, instead of getting in the way as is so often the case, with an ending of pure theatre. It's the best match of Savio's career, and looking back is a lot more than a mere footnote in Austin's story.
