10 Great Chris Benoit Moments WWE Shouldn't Let You Forget

2. Owen Hart Tribute Match

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fG4gfddmAtY As you probably know, Owen Hart was also the victim of a senseless tragedy when he suffered an equipment malfunction at the World Wrestling Federation's Over the Edge 1999 event in Kansas City. Hart was set to enter the arena like a superhero, lowering himself from the ceiling before falling to the mat a few feet from the ground like a goof. Unfortunately, Owen's harness released early, causing him to fall to his death live on pay-per-view. Bret Hart, Owen's older brother, took time off from his job in WCW to be with his family and reevaluate his stance on professional wrestling. When WCW Nitro made a stop in Kansas City in September 1999, Bret Hart made his return to the program to have a tribute match for his younger brother who had died there only a few months earlier. Bret Hart was permitted to handpick his opponent and he chose Chris Benoit. Benoit was a student of the Hart Wrestling School and Bret felt he was the natural opponent for a match in memory of Owen Hart. They proceeded to have a great wrestling match and, as it should be, Chris Benoit tapped to the Sharpshooter in the middle of the ring. At the conclusion of the match, both men embraced and left the ring together. For Benoit, it was the ultimate honor for him to compete in the match and both he and Bret gave Owen a well-deserved tribute.
