It was the series of matches that changed Booker T from a mid-card nobody to a legitimate main eventer and he has Chris Benoit to thank for it. Booker had been a longtime tag wrestler with his brother in Harlem Heat and, while the duo had a good bit of success in the tag ranks, Booker was floundering as a singles wrestler.

Booker lucked into the WCW Television title when Rick Martel was accidentally injured during the match and Booker won the title as a result. Booker still wasn€™t finding his groove as a single and lost the TV title to Fit Finlay. Soon after, Booker engaged in a rivalry with Chris Benoit over who was the rightful number one contender for Finlay€™s title.

Booker and Benoit decided to settle things in a Best of Seven series to determine who would challenge for the TV title. Benoit jumped out to a quick 3-1 series lead and Booker seemed down and out. However, Booker fought back and tied the series at 3, setting the stage for a culminating seventh match at the Great American Bash.

Booker went on to defeat Chris Benoit in the final match, winning the series and earning the title shot at Fit Finlay.

While Booker was the winner, this was the perfect example of a storyline getting both guys over because both Booker and Chris Benoit were elevated in the eyes of the fans because of their strong match performance and booking equality. Both guys went on to become world champions in WCW and WWE and their series is one of the reasons why.
