There were so many amazing matches from the so-called Smackdown Six era of Smackdown, with the Guerreros, Rey Mysterio, Edge, Chris Benoit and Kurt Angle producing blinders on a weekly basis. It made Smackdown must-watch TV for many, but as good as their televised outings were, they saved their best for pay-per-view.

In a tournament final to crown new WWE Tag Team Champions, Edge & Mysterio took on Angle & Benoit in what might have been the best pure tag team match in WWE history. That may seem like a weighty statement to make given the amount of fabulous doubles action we've seen over the years, but go back and watch the match and see for yourself.

The story was simple, with the technically superior (at least in a mat wrestling sense) Benoit and Angle tried to ground their high-flying foes. Edge and Rey Rey, however, retaliated with all manner of head-spinning offense to fluster their opponents, before they were finally able to isolate Mysterio.

From there it was Rock 'N Roll Express formula all the way, only extended to include two hot tags from the babyfaces. In the end there were too many nearfalls to count, as each team came close to winning the match. It took Rey and Benoit both being incapacitated on the floor for The Olmypic Hero to lock his Canadian rival in an Ankle Lock to win the match after 22 minutes of blistering action.

If this match were to take place in 2016, fans would exhaust themselves coming up with clever chants after going through 'THIS IS AWESOME', 'FIGHT FOREVER' AND 'ALL THESE GUYS'. Thankfully, this match took place fourteen years ago, and the 10,000 inside the Alltel Arena simply watched on in amazement at what the incredible performers were doing in the ring.

Stop what you're doing now and fire up 2002's Match of the Year on the WWE Network.
