10 Great WCW Moments No One Ever Talks About

8. Bash At The Beach 1994 - Hulk Hogan vs. Ric Flair

WCW rarely did an angle better than the WWF but, in 1994, they accomplished just that when they signed Hulk Hogan. Back in 1991, the WWF was handed their rival's world title on a silver platter and totally blew it. Ric Flair had a disagreement with WCW executive Jim Herd and got himself fired. However, Jim Herd wasn't a wrestling guy and forgot that NWA Champion Flair had actually put a $25,000 deposit down on the belt. Therefore, Herd couldn't strip Flair of the belt because Ric technically owned it. Soon after, Bobby Heenan appeared on WWF television and knocked on Hulk Hogan's dressing room door holding the NWA World title. This was totally mind-blowing stuff at the time and fans went nuts at the idea of a WWF champion vs. NWA champion match. Unfortunately, Vince McMahon changed his mind at the last second and aborted the Hogan-Flair feud for God knows what reason and booked Flair against Randy Savage instead. A few years later, WCW would not make the same mistake when they immediately booked Hogan against Flair at their Bash at the Beach pay-per-view in 1994. Given 20 minutes in the main event (obviously), Hogan and Flair had a decent match with tons of ringside shenanigans from managers Sherri Martel, Jimmy Hart, and Mr. T. Hogan ended up winning the title in his debut match with the company, pinning Flair after the legdrop and capturing the win. Hogan and Flair's match drew 14,000 to the arena and also an amazing 1.02 buyrate on pay-per-view. Even with both men past their primes as wrestlers, WCW proved that Flair and Hogan could still draw on top of a promotion.
