10 Great Wrestling Careers Ruined By Bad Gimmick Changes
6. Perry Saturn & Moppy
The Radicalz experienced a mixed bag of success in WWE. While Chris Benoit and Eddie Guerrero eventually became beloved World Champions, Dean Malenko found himself languishing during a lengthy Light Heavyweight Championship run, and Perry Saturn was only with the company for a couple of years.
There was always scope for bigger things in Saturn’s WWE career, but these prospects went out the window in 2001. Unfortunately, Perry legitimately attacked jobber Mike Bell after the latter botched an arm drag during a match between the two, and his career soon went down the pan.
WWE enforced a huge gimmick change on Saturn as punishment for his actions. Suddenly, Saturn became madly infatuated with the imaginatively-named Moppy (who, believed or not, was a mop), and started acting nonsensically. The gimmick went over surprisingly well with the crowd, but it made a mockery of Saturn himself, particularly when he chose Moppy over Terri Runnels.
Moppy’s life met a tragic end when Terri fed her to a woodchipper that summer, and Saturn’s career was all but over. Having spent the last spell of his WWE career playing a brain dead toddler, Saturn was released from his contract in 2002.
