10 Great Wrestling Feuds That Produced Disappointing Matches
3. Shinsuke Nakamura Vs. AJ Styles
AJ Styles and Shinsuke Nakamura had one heck of a rivalry earlier this year when the latter won the men's Royal Rumble match and challenged Styles for the WWE Championship at WrestleMania. The pair's history outside of WWE was well-documented, and the thought of seeing them wrestle each other at The Showcase of the Immortals sent us all into meltdown. After their incredible encounter at NJPW's Wrestle Kingdom 10, it's understandable the entire WWE Universe had really high expectations for their in-ring meetings.
The rivalry was everything it should have been, starting out respectful before Nakamura became a vengeful heel, desperate to take the championship from Styles. For their matches, the two exceptional performers really tried to channel their past and give the WWE Universe what we were hoping for but, while the contests were indeed great, unfortunately they fell significantly short of those high expectations.
It's hard to criticise their outings because these two men never once produced a bad match, but their WWE clashes were just a little disappointing compared to what we were expecting from them.
