In the early days of TNA, you could argue that the promotion's top two homegrown stars were AJ Styles and Samoa Joe.

The Phenomenal One and The Samoan Submission Machine were not only part of the legendary triple threat at Unbreakable 2005 alongside Christopher Daniels, but they also fought a bunch of times one-on-one, including for the world title at Against All Odds 2010.

Their final TNA singles match together came in 2013, and it would be another five years before they met again, this time in WWE for a much grander prize.

Joe was a major part of AJ's second WWE Championship reign, which lasted over a year between 2017 and 2018. They had matches for the title at four pay-per-views, SummerSlam, Hell in a Cell, Super ShowDown, and Crown Jewel. This is the feud where Joe routinely called out Styles' wife, giving the world the "OOOOOHHH, WENDYYYY" meme.

Whilst not a classic series of matches by any stretch, it's insane that they happened in the first place, as two men who had made their name in TNA fighting over the WWE Championship would have seemed impossible just a few years earlier.
