10 Great WWE Characters That Have Grown Stale

7. Nikki Cross

What now for Nikki Cross? Having spent most of the year failing to beat Bayley for the WWE SmackDown Women's Championship, everything seemed set up for the former SAnitY member to finally scale the divisional peak at Clash of Champions: Gold Rush. Alas, a COVID-scare got in the way, and the Bayley boat sailed by the Scottish star.

So, the question must be repeated: what now for Nikki Cross? She has lost Alexa Bliss to The Fiend, and she finds herself bobbing in a sea of mundane nothing with no direction in sight. She began her WWE life as a wildcard, an erratic presence who brought a real sense of danger with her every appearance. Now, Cross is a woman on the roster. No danger, no excitement, just decent matches and little else.

Cross needs a change to get over this hump. A very talented performer and still relatively young at 31, there is time for Cross to revamp her character and come back even stronger, but something needs to change to stop her from muddling her way into the mediocrity of the centreground.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
