10 Great WWE Characters That Have Grown Stale

5. Matt Riddle

Matt Riddle should have been another in that longest line of 'can't miss' prospects, but months of feuding with King Corbin have left the King of Bros feeling more than a little stale. Riddle is another performer who seems to have been hindered by plying his trade without the excitement of a crowd, and the empty arena era has left his carefree stoner gimmick looking a little too amateur for television.

All of which means Matt Riddle is in need of a change. Does that come in the form of a move to RAW? A heel turn? Riddle is a simple character, but WWE has taken away the shine of that simplicity and reduced it almost to parody. He says 'bro' and he doesn't wear boots. LOLZ! WWE has missed the most basic of points, and Riddle is a diminished character as a result.

The excitement surrounding Matt Riddle has gone. His future looks decidedly dicey, with lawsuits filed and more backstage controversy on the horizon. Pontificating about what can be done with Riddle may soon become a pointless argument. Until then, there is work to be done.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
