Money in the Bank 2011 featured one of the hottest matches in the company's history with John Cena defending his world title against CM Punk in Punk's hometown of Chicago. CM Punk's contract was set to expire at midnight that night and Punk had promised to leave the company with the title, repeating his Summer of Punk angle in Ring of Honor. With his scathing Pipe Bomb speech, Punk became the biggest babyface in the company, drawing the ire of Vince McMahon and setting the stage for one of the most anticipated matches in WWE history. Punk surprised everyone when he won the title from Cena after a fantastic match and blew Vince McMahon a kiss as he carried the WWE title through the crowd and out the door. Over the next two weeks, Punk would appear at various independent wrestling shows with the belt, promising to defend the title wherever he pleased and show the WWE who the champion truly was. It was an awesome storyline that seemed to have unlimited potential. But then WWE had to go and ruin it. Not only did they have a world title tournament only two weeks after the Money in the Bank event, but they had John Cena beat Rey Mysterio for the belt on the same show he won the title tournament. To make matters worse, Kevin Nash interjected himself in the rematch between Punk and Cena, saying that Triple H had texted him and asked him to attack Punk after the match. After some convoluted explanations and storyline development, it was revealed that Triple H did not text Nash. As a matter of fact, Nash had texted himself. Yep, we have no idea what that means either.
