The mid-’00s DX revival was hit and miss (with Triple H and Shawn Michaels too old to be carrying on like teenagers), but for all their throwback adolescent antics could be grating, they put on some great matches with the likes of Legacy and Rated RKO.

They come into this clash with a head of steam, having seen Orton and Edge brutalise mentor figure Ric Flair before dealing chair shots to the boys in black and green. The heat gives the match a great energy, and all four are eager to make this as good as it possibly can be. Edge in particular bumps all over the place for Michaels and HHH, the simple face/heen dynamic paying dividends.

Then, it all goes wrong. Triple H buckles, having torn his quad again. Just like in 2001, he admirably manages to gut out the rest of the match, but quick thinking is required. HBK, overcome with rage (or something), superkicks the ref; chaos descends, and the match is thrown out, following which the babyfaces take the heels out of the ring and heroically batter them until they’re absolutely drenched in blood.
