Towards the end of the Thunderdome era, no one in the company was putting on better work than Sheamus and Drew McIntyre. The former pals turned bitter foes used their years of history and willingness to take an absolute whipping to elevate their matches beyond anything they needed to be.

This bout sees the two former world champs shoved in the middle of Raw but with every intention of stealing the show. They don’t get a great deal of TV time but the match is cleverly structured, with weapons spots teased but not followed through in the opening sequences.

Eventually, though, it gets properly violent. The two made an art of kendo stick thwacks (showing off their bruised bodies on social media), and later incorporate chairs and tables, each giving as good as they get.

The conclusion is delightfully cartoonish, each superstar choosing to put some steel steps on their head and then running into each other for a double knockout. It’s PPV quality carnage on a throwaway Monday night - commendable stuff.
