10 Great WWE Raw Matches That Came From Out Of Nowhere
7. Seth Rollins Vs. Neville - WWE World Heavyweight Championship (3.8.15)
Prior to the August 8, 2015 episode of Raw, WWE had not presented a WWE Title match on their flagship for close to two-and-a-half years. It's quite incredible, really, when you think about. WWE used to present WWE Title matches on free TV all the time in the Attitude Era but they've really reigned it in in recent years.
They broke the mould when Neville stepped up to face the ultra cocky Seth Rollins, who had taken John Cena out of action by breaking his nose. The Architect offered anyone on the roster under 6ft tall and 200lbs a shot at the strap, probably thinking/hoping it'd be taken up by El Torito.
Instead he got a very game The Man That Gravity Forgot, who was at his flippy best and rocked the champ with a couple of corkscrew dives, a top rope frankensteiner and the Red Arrow. Neville thought he had the match won on that last one but Rollins just about got his toes on the rope to break the count.
The jumping Geordie went for it one more time, which proved to be his undoing; Rollins moves and dropped him with a Pedigree to retain.
Still, even though he lost, Neville came out of the match looking better than before he went into it and the commentators talked up the fact that he put forward a hell of an effort and only just came up short. Rollins, for his part, did everything he could to make the Newcastle native look like a real contender before escaping with the gold still around his waist.
