9 Great WWE Storylines That Were Dropped Way Too Quickly

1. The WCW Invasion

Definitely the most notable example of a rushed story that had a wholly unsatisfactory conclusion, the 2001 saga of the 'Invasion' remains one of the biggest storyline botches in WWF/WWE folklore. For years, wrestling fans had bought magazines solely because they contained articles talking about what might happen if Sting faced The Undertaker, or Goldberg clashed with Steve Austin.

Now, upon buying WCW, fans really thought they were about to see such bouts, but neither has happened to date. Not wishing to fork out the millions of dollars it would have required to buy out guaranteed contracts for the likes of Sting, Goldberg and others, the WWF instead decided that the 24 inclusive contracts they had were enough.

After all, the likes of DDP, Booker T and Buff Bagwell were in there, so that was enough star power. Sadly, this was wrong, very wrong, and the company big wigs panicked somewhat, making Steve Austin - a man few fans of the era associated with WCW - the head of the WCW/ECW mob. Kicking off properly in May, this 'Invasion' would be over by November, and by that point it was more about yet another rivalry between The Rock and Steve Austin more than anything else.

Maybe if the WWF hadn't made DDP into a jobbing loser, there would have been hope, but instead the WCW crew looked distinctly second best to their WWF counterparts.
