10 Great WWE Wrestlers Who Had Terrible First World Title Reigns

6. Christian

The Undertaker WWE Champion 1991
WWE

A former two-time World Heavyweight Champion in WWE, Christian’s first run with the ‘Big Gold Belt’ was heartbreaking for so many reasons. After years of being overlooked, ‘Captain Charisma’ defeated Alberto Del Rio in a ladder match to claim the title just weeks after his best friend Edge was forced to vacate the strap and retire from in-ring competition. Five days later, his reign was over at the hands of Randy Orton.

He and Orton went on to have a great feud for the championship that saw Christian win it back before dropping it once again to the ‘Viper’. This would be the end of ‘Captain Charisma’s’ world title escapades, though he did win another IC Championship before a string of historic injuries and concussions made the man realise it was time to call it quits.

Even though Christian's first world championship victory was so short and devastating, it did lead to an exciting rivalry. And at least his celebration was a lot more... wholesome than the next entry on this list.
