10 Greatest Canadian Wrestlers Of All Time

9. Christian

Christian, or Christian Cage to fans of TNA, wrestled his final match in 2014 to little fanfare. It is a shame that concussions would force this Canadian out of active competition and a greater shame that WWE did not give Christian a proper retirement; rather they simply took him off of television. William Reso (real name) still maintains a presence on WWE programing as he hosts a Network exclusive program with his former tag-team partner Edge, The Edge and Christian Show That Totally Reeks of Awesomeness (TEACSTTROA?).

The Kitchener, Ontario native was no stranger to gold during his time in WWE and TNA, racking up numerous titles in both promotions as well as the WWE reboot of ECW. One aspect of a great wrestler is the ability to work at a high level in different formats. Christian exemplified this as shown by his tag-team prowess combined with his World-Championship runs later in his career. It is impossible to think of Christian’s early career without thinking of fellow great Canadian Edge (spoilers). Together, the team would accumulate seven Tag-Titles as well as compete together in back-to-back Pro Wrestling Illustrated matches of the year at Wrestlemanias 2000 and 2001. Christian’s first World Heavyweight title in WWE was won in 2011, thirteen years after his debut as a member of The Brood. Although his two title reigns were short, thirty-one days combined, his feud with Randy Orton was one of the best of 2011 and helped to further cement Christian’s legacy.

Ultimately, “Captain Charisma’s” career will be characterized by a lack of faith from management to be a top guy. Despite this, the scrappy Canadian still managed to win a combined twenty championships under the WWE banner and another two world titles in TNA. Not too shabby.
