10 Greatest Comebacks In UFC History

7. Anderson Silva Vs. Chael Sonnen - UFC 117

Before Conor McGregor became the king of destroying anyone willing to verbally spar with him, Chael Sonnen was the fighter with the best banter in mixed martial arts. It all began when he realised that his wrestle heavy style wasn't gaining him the sort of support he needed to face then UFC middleweight champion, Anderson Silva.

However, when he started to goad the champion in interviews and social media, it became inevitable that the two would fight each other. After months of back-and-forth, the two fought in the main event UFC 117 and what a battle it was. Even though Silva was the heavy favourite, Sonnen didn't hesitate at all, taking the fight to the champion and using his superior wrestling to completely shut him down.

Fans had never seen Silva in such a predicament and by the time they made it to the fifth round, Sonnen was quite clearly ahead in all three judges' scorecards and on the way to winning the UFC title. However, despite going into the fight with a badly injured rib, Silva managed to weather Chael's wrestling storm and lock in a triangle-armbar choke that forced him to tap out and eat some humble pie in the process.
