The (re)formation of the Hart Foundation in 1997 was a masterstroke that brilliantly played with the audience's emotions.

Taking place on the 31 March '97 episode of Raw, fans thought they were seeing the dissolution of the Tag Team Champions, Davey Boy Smith and Owen Hart. Fresh off retaining the straps a week prior at WrestleMania 13, Owen decided that he wanted a crack at the European Championship that was around the British Bulldog's waist.

With a couple of Slammy Awards in-hand, Hart made his way to the ring in cocksure fashion, as he and Davey Boy raged war over the European Title. These partners looked destined to tear each other apart until Bret Hart made his way to the ring to stop a steel chair from coming into play.

It's here that the Hitman held Owen and Davey back, then cut one of the greatest promos of his career; talking about how the US audiences had turned the three against each other at times. Bret would play up the aspect of brotherly love and family, playing on the heartstrings of his brother and brother-in-law to form a new alliance.

A month later, Jim Neidhart and Brian Pillman had joined this trio, and the new Hart Foundation was off to the races - dominating WWF programming for six months before that night in Montreal.
