10 Greatest Feud-Ending Wrestling Matches Of All Time
4. Shawn Michaels Vs. Bret Hart (Survivor Series 1997)
Much like the bout itself, the inclusion of this match on this list is sure to be controversial. The infamous "Montreal Screwjob" is perhaps the most infamous in-ring event in wrestling history. Yet for as much as people have discussed it, the one thing that you typically don't hear about the ending is that it was a satisfying ending to one of the most personal feuds in professional wrestling history. However, I disagree with that assessment. Shawn Michaels and Bret Hart's rivalry was the product of a hatred so deep that ending it in a conventional professional wrestling manner would have been nearly impossible. The screwjob not only played off of the real life elements that made the rivalry so compelling but also would prove to be the catalyst for the biggest boom period that the industry has ever known. It transcended professional wrestling in the same way that these two performers did. Plus it must be said that for all of the attention this match's ending gets; the match itself is actually pretty good. Shawn and Bret put on their usual wrestling clinic in front of a hot crowd that would have been perfectly satisfied watching Michaels dragged into the fires of hell. Instead, they saw a hero become a martyr, a villain becomes a champion and the very nature of professional wrestling change forever.
