It's always strange seeing two all-time stars clash when they weren't quite as big a deal, and that's certainly the overriding feeling when watching Triple H vs. The Rock at SummerSlam '98. However, this shouldn't take away from an awesome ladder match - one of the most fondly remembered in the stipulation's history.

Although neither man could be accurately called a high-flier, they made the most of the stipulation with a very cerebral match (no pun intended), one which included inventive uses of the ladder as a weapon, a thrilling exchange of finishers, and occasional interference from both Chyna and Mark Henry.

Eventually Triple H was able to win, bringing an end to Rocky's excellent Intercontinental Championship reign, and solidifying both men as future main eventers. That outcome may have come around quicker than anyone expected, as both were WWF Champion within the next 12 months.
