10 Greatest Manager/Wrestler Combinations Ever

7. 'Classy' Freddie Blassie & The Iron Sheik

Along with Albano and The Grand Wizard of Wrestling, 'Classy' Freddie Blassie was a part of the infamous 'Three Wise Men' of management that had a huge role in the WWWF (which would become the WWF and later WWE).

'The Fashion Plate of Professional Wrestling' was a more than accomplished competitor himself, winning NWA Championship gold before hanging up the boots in 1974 (although this was only due to California not allowing folk over 55 to wrestle).

Blassie made a smooth transition from in the ring to out of it, and he would manage a whole host of superstars including Nikolai Volkoff, Killer Khan, Hulk Hogan and Adrian Adonis.

It was his partnership with the Iron Sheik that was arguably the most entertaining however, something anyone with the vaguest knowledge of the Sheik would already have assumed.

Blassie was all about the cash, of course, and together the two catapulted Sheiky Baby to the top of the wrestling world.

Along the way the Classy one became 'Ayatollah Blassie', a move that incited the ire of fans further. The two were a match made in wherever the hell Sheik was created, that's for sure.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
