6. Jim Cornette & The Midnight Express

Young readers (and even slightly older ones) may have little in the way of recognition of this pairing, but Jim Cornette's stewarding of the Midnight Express was integral to an iconic time in tag team wrestling history.

Whether it was 'Lover Boy' Dennis Condrey and 'Beautiful' Bobby Eaton or Eaton and 'Sweet' Stan Lane, the results were golden.

Cornette was a career-manager, and the honing of his craft was clear throughout. With his strangely irritating tennis racket always by his side, Cornette directed traffic from the outside in his own naturally irritating manner.

His sports coats didn't exactly endear him to the fans either, but if his job was to garner heat and get sympathy for the faces opposing his charges then the man was an expert.

Cornette would manage a variety of superstars throughout his career, but his association with the Midnight Express stands out as his finest.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
