10 Greatest Matches From WWE's SmackDown Six

4. Rey Mysterio Vs. Kurt Angle (SmackDown 2006)

Of all the six, Angle and Mysterio arguably seem the least well matched. A collegiate All American vs. a masked superhero brought up in the luchadore style - they don’t immediately seem as though they would gel. Here, though, they put on a surprisingly fierce battle before Angle’s departure to ECW.

Angle’s time in the extreme league shows you just how good the man was at getting over with any audience. At the ECW pay per view in 2005, he was derided by the rabid Philadelphia crowd. A year later, he’s added a new level of viciousness to his oeuvre, and he is accepted with open arms as one of their own. It’s these rabid tendencies he puts to great use here in his match with the smaller Mysterio. Rey was holding the top belt at the time, so they allow him to get some substantial offence in on the Olympic champ, even winding the ultra aggressive Angle up with a few slaps to the bonce.

Angle gets the win in his farewell to SmackDown, but both superstars come off looking great, and the sometimes-questioned decision to put the Heavyweight belt on a distinctly non-heavyweight wrestler is again vindicated. The SmackDown six era may long have been over, but the stars hadn’t lost a step.
