Only six days prior to this year's SummerSlam extravaganza, it was confirmed that Jon Stewart would be serving as the host of the event in Brooklyn. The announcement was met by critical acclaim from fans aware of his WWE fandom and how well he performed the last time he appeared on Raw, but it was unknown how involved he would be with the show. As the show opened, he was seen standing in the middle of the ring, welcoming everyone in the arena to SummerSlam and promising a night of epic proportions. Before going on with the rest of the broadcast, he mentioned he made a call to a close friend who lived nearby and would help him host the show. At that moment, Mick Foley's music hit the arena and the audience came unglued. There hadn't been any rumblings going into the event that Foley would be making an appearance, so it was a nice treat to see the New York native show up. It also came as a shock considering Foley's on-and-off relationship with WWE and how he hasn't strayed from speaking his mind regarding the product in the past.
