10 Greatest Ultimate Opportunists In WWE History
7. CM Punk
CM Punk is one of the ten greatest opportunists in WWE history if only because he channeled two Money in the Bank victories into two individual championship wins.
WrestleMania XXIV should have been a crowning night for Jeff Hardy. However, a suspension forced WWE creative to change plans in regards to Money in the Bank. Replacing Hardy as the winner of the match was Punk, a legitimate surprise to fans who had spent months reading about Vince McMahon and Triple H's disdain for his indie work.
Regardless of the opinions of those around him, he seized that opportunity and captured the World Heavyweight Championship in June 2008, beating Edge to an enormous pop by fans in Oklahoma. Unfortunately, the followup chance to run with the title was cut short by a complete lack of faith on the part of the same officials who opted to book him to win the championship in the first place.
A year later, Punk made good on his promise to get back to the top of the industry, becoming the first superstar to win MITB twice. From there, he again cashed in successfully, this time defeating Jeff Hardy and kicking off a heel run that would change his career forever.
Capitalizing on Money in the Bank briefcases was not the only time Punk seized an opportunity. Given the chance to cut a promo in which he spoke his mind and voiced his frustrations, Punk delivered the famous 'Pipebomb' promo in June 2011 that elevated him to the forefront of the industry. He became a breakout star and pop culture phenomenon. For a brief period of time, he made wrestling cool again and forever solidified his spot as a top performer in the sport.
