10 Greatest Wrestling Families

9. The Funks

The Funks From the famous (or infamous) Double Cross Ranch in Amarillo, Texas, the Funk family has been running roughshod all over wrestling since the 1940s when Dory Funk Sr. started to wrestle in the Texas territories. After becoming a promoter in Armarillo, he pushed his sons, Terry and Dory Jr., and turned them into wrestling superstars all around the world. Dory Funk Jr. beat Gene Kiniski in 1969 for the NWA world title and held it for over four years, the second-longest reign behind only the legendary Lou Thesz. Dory Jr. was one of the best technical wrestlers in wrestling history, inventing the Texas Cloverleaf submission hold and becoming a huge star in Japan due to his technical prowess. Terry Funk, more famous to younger fans due to his run during the Attitude Era, is also a former NWA heavyweight champion. He defeated Harley Race for the coveted title and went on to become the only man to be induced into the WWE, WCW, Professional Wrestling, Wrestling Observer, NWA, and St. Louis Wrestling Halls of Fame. Terry had a legendary feud with Ric Flair during his run in the NWA during the 1980s, competing in a classic "I Quit" match against the Nature Boy which still holds up today. He would lead ECW into the mainstream during the mid-1990s and had a run as Mick Foley's tag partner during the Monday Night Wars. Later, Funk would jump to WCW and compete in their Hardcore division, still outwrestling people 30 years younger than him. Funk, who has retired an infinite amount of times, is still active on the independent scene at 70 years old and shows no signs of slowing down.
