10 Greatest Wrestling Logic Fails
8. Ref Bumps
The astonishing fragility of wrestling referees is a common point of scorn for non-fans, and for good reason. While there is often a storyline reason for a referee to get knocked out and thereby miss a heel’s nefarious deeds, the fact that one knock sends a grown man sprawling to the mat for minutes at a time is a level of silliness many viewers are unable to overcome.
Surely any functional sports company would have taken measures to address this by now. You could make a kind of alternate league table out of matches whose results would have gone differently were the referees able to withstand being lightly knocked into by a wrestler.
What’s more, when the officials do finally come round, they’re rarely in a fit state to work. More matches still have been influenced by the slow, groggy count of a recently revived ref.
It’s all part of the fun and spectacle of wrestling, of course, but it makes the commentators’ jobs all the more difficult when they’re putting over matches and results that ended the way they did because the people tasked with running the show have all the strength of a newborn kitten.
