10 Greatest Wrestling Logic Fails
7. Ranking System
It’s a commonly held belief that belts don’t mean what they used to. While they were once a coveted and protected prize in the business, years of carelessness and sloppy booking have left the straps lacking in their former significance.
Part of this is down to the ranking system, or lack thereof. Who’s due a shot at the title has no consistency whatsoever. Sometimes there’s a complex gauntlet or stipulation match to determine the number one contender - other times, Dolph Ziggler just struts to the ring and asserts that, since he used to be mates with the champion, it’s only fair that he gets the next shot.
Then there are the likes of John Cena holding invitational challenges for his title. It makes for some great matches, but surely someone in the back should be tasked with this sort of scheduling.
We know this is wrestling, where stats and history are flexible things, and no one wants to get bogged down too much in a league table for a predetermined sport, but if you want the titles to mean something, a semblance of legitimacy goes a long way.
