Poor old Sting. In 1995 he was feuding with Horsemen Anderson and Pillman, who had split from Flair after tension in the group. Sting agreed to partner with his longtime rival, promising to simply murder the Nature Boy should he betray him one more time.

With such a pitch, there are no prizes for guessing what happens, but somehow neither Sting nor the Detroit crowd seem to see it coming. The first half of the match is a quality handicap match, with the banged up Flair still backstage. Anderson and Pillman attempt to crush Sting, but the day-glo babyface fights them off.

When Flair shows up, the crowd go wild, and he struts and poses on the apron, trying desperately to get the tag for a lengthy, effective heat segment. When Sting finally makes contact, Flair enters, and immediately turns on his partner to a huge ovation.

Sting sells the betrayal excellently; he’s not overly surprised, but absolutely furious, throwing bombs at the Nature Boy until the reformed Horsemen manage to subdue him. Flair is magnificently funny as the fabled scorpion on the river: you know he was the dirtiest player in the game when you agreed to partner him.
