10 Greatest Wrestling Matches In Halloween Havoc History
3. Io Shirai Vs Candice LeRae (2020)
Capping off NXT’s show was one of the most extreme matches since the heady days of Cactus Jack and Vader. While the PG era doesn’t allow for lashings of claret or anything too horrible, this ladder match for Shirai’s NXT Women’s Championship is crammed with great spots, bumps, and payoffs.
Shirai and LeRae had feuded off and on for a decent duration, but in this iteration, with the babyface champ and scheming heel challenger, it worked better than ever. Shirai’s risk taking and overall immense ability makes her easy to cheer for, and as ever she puts herself on the line, including a high impact moonsault onto a pile of chairs.
LeRae offers up plenty too, taking a hardcore bump onto the back of a chair and ending the match with a plunge through a previously prepared ladder.
The clash has a patient build that can be found wanting in some recent WWE ladder spotfests, and while Shirai’s belt never really feels massively at risk, the two have so great a dynamic that it doesn’t matter.
