10 Greatest WWE Character Vignettes Ever

4. Mankind: Guilt

When the vignettes for Mankind aired, there was nothing like him. Wrestling had had monsters and crazies before, but Foley's character wasn't a cartoon like Mantaur or George Steele. Even the Undertaker had Paul Bearer to take the edge off of him, but Mankind is all edges and sharp corners and missing body parts.

Here, you have Mick Foley simultaneously playing a character as well as speaking from his own personal experience. The name "Mankind" was Foley's idea, and it allows him to address both his own character and the faults of humanity at large. He says Mankind will feel no guilt for what he's going to do, because mankind evidently felt no guilt about his pain, his torment, and his disfigurement. It's the same kind of rage that Foley brought to the fabled "cane Dewey" promo, perfectly gimmicked up for mid-90's WWE consumption.
