Yes, their gimmicks both tangentially involve money, but like Irwin was obsessed with the fundamental dishonesty of humanity, Ted was clearly fascinated by how socioeconomic clout could be exercised to override moral and ethical imperatives.

On this occasion, Ted and Virgil visit a public pool and demand exclusive access to it just to prove a point that no one, not even notoriously upright public pool managers (?) is immune to the influence of wealth. They bribe the guy, he shoos the kids away, and Ted cackles in triumph.
