The Undertaker vs. Mankind at October 1996's In Your House was a match that was the first of its kind.

While Shawn Michaels is likely the number one superstar to debut a new match type to the WWE Universe (Ladder Match, Iron Man Match, Hell In A Cell, Elimination Chamber, etc.), The Undertaker is a close second.

The Buried Alive Match saw a grave created inside the Market Square Arena in Indianapolis, complete with a graphical headstone featuring images of Mankind, The Undertaker, and the WWF In Your House logo. The match could only end when one wrestler was placed into the 6 foot deep grave, with a mountain of dirt thrown on top, in essence "burying them alive".

After their previous two pay-per-view matches both saw Mankind get the 'W', The Undertaker scored the official victory here.

What fans remember most, though, is typically the aftermath of the match which saw numerous heel superstars, including a debuting Executioner (Terry Gordy under a hood), attack The Undertaker and load him into the grave. After an impressive production by WWE to truly make it look like The Undertaker had been buried alive, the show went off the air with the famous shot of a purple-gloved hand rising up from under the grave.
